COLAB Dry Shampoo: First Impressions
If you're a bit of a beauty enthusiast, you will have heard of COLAB and their haircare products, made famous by the British beauty blogging community and of course their ambassador, Ruth Crilly aka A Model Recommends. It's taken a little while but the brand is finally available in New Zealand. *insert confetti, sparkles and streamers here* I was offered the opportunity to try some of COLAB's products and jumped at the chance. Dry shampoo is my jam as I'm sure you all know. My lack of enthusiasm for hair-washing is well documented around these parts. COLAB had me at Sheer+Invisible and the range of enticing scents, inspired by different cities. As it is still very early days, I thought I'd share my first impressions and musings about the two products I have tried...
COLAB Sheer+Invisible Monaco*-Having dark hair, I want dry shampoo that doesn't look like I've run flour through my hair and called it a day, so the idea of a sheer and invisible dry shampoo was always going to get my stamp of approval. The Monaco fragrance contains top notes of; lemon, bergamot, seaweed, driftwood and cardamom, heart notes of; neroli, petitgrain and mandarin and base notes of; amber, musk, vetiver and oak. I wish this was a body spray or something as well because it smells divine. As for its sheer+invisible qualities, it literally is undetectable in the hair, even before you brush it through. It definitely had my third-day hair looking a lot more refreshed too.
COLAB Volume London*-As well as the Sheer+Invisible offerings, COLAB have bought their range of Volume dry shampoos to NZ as well. I opted for this in the London fragrance which contains top notes of; bergamot and rose, heart notes of; rose, violet, magnolia and jasmine and base notes of; wood, amber and musk. The volume formula adds a bit of texture and body to the hair, without taking things overboard. It's a little less lightweight than the Sheer+Invisible but it still isn't weighty by any means. I love the mini size of this one too, it's perfect for travel.
COLAB's dry shampoos are available from select stockists in New Zealand now. To find your nearest supplier, call 0508 734 466

Sebastian Drymatic
Hair products don't make their way onto NW very often so you know when they do appear that I've got a rave and a half to share. A couple of months back I was sent the new Sebastian Pro Drynamic* to review. I've always liked the idea of dry shampoos and their ability to disguise second or third day hair, but the fact many of them come with an unwanted white cast for darker hair has always scared me off. On a particularly lazy day** I reached for this in my stash and here's what I thought...

A Trip To Mecca Cosmetica
Last week I took a trip to Mecca Cosmetica. There's nothing particularly unusual about that. What was most unusual about this visit was I dashed right past Nars, sidestepped Diptyque and headed straight for the Bumble and Bumble shelves. One thing I want to feature on the blog more this year is haircare and skincare. I also happened to need a new conditioner. You know the drill..
Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dry Spun Finish This is showing up as unavailable online so it may have sold out again. I was not expecting to see this on the Mecca shelves given it has been MIA for a few months now. This is similar to the well-loved Oribe texturising spray which we can't get in New Zealand. My hair is quite thick but once I straighten it, which is most days, it tends to lose its volume. Spritzing this through the roots and then shaping the hair with my hands gives it more body and bounce. It earns bonus points for not having the toxic scent some hairsprays have and not leaving my hair feeling crispy.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Creme Rinse Conditioner It may just be because it's Summer but I am obsessed with hair products that revolve around the beach hair concept. More on that soon. This lightweight creme conditioner is designed to leave hair feeling airy and soft with body, texture and enhanced natural wave. I have only used this once and noticed my hair had the faux 'beach swim' thing happening, with less salt obviously. This can leave the ends of your hair feeling a bit dry but it's nothing a bit of this can't fix.
*Have you tried any Bumble and Bumble products? I'd love to know your thoughts! I hope everyone's having a fabulous weekend so far. Mine's been quite chilled admittedly but that's perfect after the week that was. xo

Fashion-A Year in Review. Part 2.
Here's the second part of last week's, well even last year's post. I've focused more on trends of 2011, as opposed to events. Although there were so many memorable moments of both that it was difficult to choose just ten. I hope you enjoy them!
6) The year of the Covers.
-Vogue Australia is probably one of the smaller titles under the Conde Nast umbrella. Yet this year it has been gaining international recognition, with its editorials being repeatedly showcased on 'Fashion Gone Rogue's' site. Their covers this year have been breathtaking. My personal favourite was the March cover with its vibrant colours and minimal text, which can often be a visual distraction rather than an aid.
7) Razzle dazzle 'em.
-Everyone loves a little glitz and sparkle. Its almost nostalgic and definitely fairylike. Glittered pieces were appearing in the work of designers everywhere this year, particularly in the accessories department. Glittered brogues anyone? Sequins, glitter and sparkles bought smiles to many a fashionista's face, and proved a welcome distraction from the universal troubles of the world. Let's hope they stay around in 2012!
8) Sass and Bide.
-I don't know what cave I'd been in up until quite recently, but obviously it's been very sheltered if Sass and Bide only recently caught my eye. Many of their pieces paid homage to two of my favourite elements; tribal and sparkle. The fringed skirt and embellished maxi particularly struck me as stunning, but there were so many more I could have chosen to showcase.
9) Frida Kahlo Finery.
-Frida Kahlo's often been the source of inspiration for the fashion world, with her bold colours and floral garlands, not to mention braids which I'll explore more later. This Frida Kahlo shoot by Wendy Bevan for Marie Claire Italia in particular stands out, along with the DIY garlands featured on Rookie.
10) I'm as free as my hair.
-Finally, messy hair is being embraced and us ladies can breathe a collective sigh of relief! There's almost an art to creating these dishevelled, yet oh so glamourous looks. Although they are definitely more accessible than some styles we've seen in previous seasons.
