Summer Beauty Must-Haves
I'll be honest, the only real time I make somewhat of an effort with makeup in Summer is when I go to work. Even then I don't always do a full face of makeup daily. There are some budge-proof, foolproof and MVP's of my makeup stash that I reach for though. I've also included some miscellaneous beauty things that have become my ride or dies this Summer...
This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray & Breathe In, limited edition size: These minis were part of a trio released at Christmas time. So naturally I took them away when I was housesitting and staying with family but I actually use them all the time. The humidity makes it more of a struggle to sleep in Summer and these are a godsend. It could just be a very crafty placebo effect, but spritzing this spray and applying the rollerball to pulse points always seems to instate a sense of zen and calm. Both things I need a lot of.
Colourpop Take Me Home Palette: You might hear about this again later in the month. Ahem, most definitely will. I love this slimline, compact palette. Mattes, shimmers, high pigment, long-lasting. I love 'em. If I've been wearing eyeshadow at all lately, it's been this palette almost exclusively.
MAC Fix+ Coconut Spray, mini size limited edition: This mini was released as part of the Work It Out collection last year. That name's possibly wrong. I think it was geared towards people who glam for the gym aka not me. Anyway, this is my go-to setting spray and I love it. I don't know if the formulation has changed but I'm not a fan of sticky, heavy face sprays. This one is a fine mist which lightly sets down your makeup and adds a touch of glow as well. At the moment MAC have it available, as well as the lavender and rose versions. I'm not sure if it's limited but I may have to go back and grab the full size.
NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation: I can't remember exactly why I stopped using this foundation because I love it. As the name would suggest, it is long lasting and provides medium coverage. It blends like a dream and the finish is more satin-y. Although I always set it with powder anyway, especially at this time of year. I'm curious to see what the new NARS foundation is like, although I suspect it will be too glowy for me.
Byredo Mojave Ghost EDP: A luxe love but a good'un. I describe this as a fancier version of Daisy x Marc Jacobs and I won't riddle you with my questionable perfume review skills. Go have a nosy at the Mecca Cosmetica description. Just know I love it and it's one of the few perfumes that don't evaporate from my skin in Summertime.
Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray*: An oldie but a goodie. I seem to have accumulated a few of these. The mini size lives on my desk at work and is a lifesaver on the really hot days. Ok, every day just about. I'm sure some people will say this is just glorified water in a can. Perhaps it is. I don't care, it's refreshing and it makes such a difference. Sprays like this are great when you step out of the shower too.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer: I give this quite a workout in Summer. It's such a flattering bronzer for paler people, I have the shade Luminous Bronze Light. A little goes a long way with this so I just sweep a blush brush in the compact and apply the slightest amount. I'm actually hoping to try a new (ish) bronzing product soon so stay tuned. This one though is my Summer bff.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick: Pillow Talk is such a brilliant lipstick. Yes it does make me think of a certain Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid video on every application. For a matte, it's super creamy and long lasting. I barely need to reapply this yet despite that it doesn't feel drying in the slightest. It sells out quite regularly and I can easily see why.
NARS The Veil Cheek Palette, limited edition: There's probably not much point saying a lot about this, seeing as it was from the Man Ray collection that is no longer available. It's a dreamy combination of NARS blush, bronzer and highlighter though and I love the colours. They can be a tad intense if you aren't careful but I like that if you're using a finer brush, you can build them up to the intensity you are after.

The Beauty Files, Vol. One
Another week, another new feature. Introducing the Beauty Files, a monthly round-up of beauty bits new, old, loved, lusted and some that are perhaps a bit baffling. Regarding the latter, it goes without saying that this is just my opinion so please don't interpret it as me being slanderous. It's just my personal skepticism towards whatever that product/trend may be. Anyway, on with volume one.
Something New: Avene Cleanance Mask*. Unfortunately I don't think this is available in New Zealand but it is online, see link. Avene gave me the opportunity to choose some of their products to try and I went for this one, after remembering it was one of Anna's must-haves. Part clay mask, part scrub. This reminds me a bit of a mask Anna sent me actually, but gentler and better. If your skin's particularly blemish prone, you can use this once a week but because I'm rather slack when it comes to masks, I'm only using it once every couple of weeks. Although honestly, that's probably all my skin needs when I'm using this* as well.
Something Loved:Tartelette in Bloom-Is it just me, or have Tarte seriously lifted their prices? I swear I didn't pay $84 for this palette over a year ago. In fact, that seems a bit insane to me. Although I would say this is worth the money, given I use it several times a week and there's not one dud shade, with the exception of the top right which I just wouldn't use often anyway. It's a seriously beautiful palette and offers something a bit different to the other myriad of neutral eyeshadow palettes out there. I highly recommend this one.
Something Rediscovered: Bite Luminous Creme Lipstick in Pepper-After a seriously major overhaul of my beauty stash, this was one of the few nude lipsticks that survived. I know, first world problems and all that. Pepper, a Dusty Rose is what I'd describe as a my lips, but better and slightly darker shade. Sorry for that tired beauty blogger cliche, not sorry. It's creamy but dries to more of a satin finish and stays put. Naturally the colour fades off a bit throughout the day but it isn't enough to warrant a touchup. Translation: If you're a bit lazy like me and don't faff around reapplying lipstick, this is for you.
Something Unconvincing: MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks*-Okay I should begin this by saying I have nothing against the formula of these lipsticks. In fact of all the liquid lipsticks out there, MAC's are some of the better ones in terms of longevity and not settling into the lines of your lips. It's these new colours, released during NZ's Autumn that I am less swayed by. Pictured are the shades Ess-Presso and Simply Smoked. They both come out on the darker grey-brown side of things on me and do not suit me at all and I'm wondering who MAC thinks these colours are accessible to. I'm sure they'd work on deeper skintones but for everyone else, I'm not so sure.
Something Lustworthy: Perricone MD's No Bronzer Bronzer. I've seen this product doing the rounds on a few Top Shelves as well as its praises being sung by Alix which is pretty much all the convincing I can ever need. This liquid bronzer adjusts to your skin colour, providing just the right amount of warmth and glow. I've only ever tried one liquid bronzer before and wasn't overly wowed by it so I'm curious to see what this one's like. Maybe I'll grab a sample next time I'm in Mecca.

My Unsung Beauty Heroes
The title says it all really. Today I'm shining the spotlight on some products which really don't get as much love as they deserve around these parts. In fact, with a couple of exceptions, I'm pretty sure most of these have never been mentioned on the blog before, which is not a good thing! That ends today though as I talk you through some of my daily loves, from two hairbrushes you need to products that smell amazing enough to eat...
Tangle Teezer-I think this colourway is the Sugared Almonds one but it's not coming up online so it may have been limited edition. This was a repurchase as my old Tangle Teezer was getting a bit worn and just wasn't performing as well as it used to. Like the Wet Brush (below), this is great if you have thicker hair that's prone to going a bit unruly or getting tangled up. Funny that..Seriously though, this is another brush which won't make brushing your hair feel painful and for that it gets a lot of love from me.
The Body Shop Wonderblur*-This is a relatively new product from TBS and it reminds me a lot of Instablur. I use it as a primer underneath foundation but you could also use it under something like concealer or a BB cream if you want a lighter base. It helps to smooth the complexion and allows your makeup to sit on the skin better. It's a little bit silicone-like but if that doesn't bother you too much, you should get on well with this product.
Urban Decay 'All Nighter' Setting Spray-This was another repurchase but I opted for the 'all nighter' spray in a trial size instead. The reason being I am off to Australia in May and I know Urban Decay should be available there by then, so I can pick up a full sized one on my travels. Maybe. This spray is oil and paraben free *insert thumbs up emoji here* and seriously does help prevent your makeup from migrating all over your face.
The Wet Brush-I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned on NW before. This may just look like your normal, run of the mill hairbrush. Believe me when I say, it isn't. I feel like brushes shaped like this are typically notorious for being painful on thick hair but this one is honestly the gentlest brush ever. As the name suggests, it's designed to be used with wet, 'just out of the shower' hair but I find it performs just as well on dry hair, especially with a bit of this in the mix.
Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray-You may have seen me raving about this on Twitter a bit this Summer as I've been spritzing it whenever it got too humid. Aside from being refreshing on your face, it also acts as a lightweight toner of sorts. It's also great for calming angry skin, so if you're one of those people who's prone to ruddy cheeks after exercising or having a hot shower, you need this in your life.
The Body Shop Early Harvest Raspberry Scrub* available March 30-One of my favourite ranges from last year is returning to The Body Shop's shelves again for a limited time. Who didn't love feel obliged to purchase the entire range last year? The scrub is absolutely delicious, as is the body butter, but more on that next week. They're the perfect pairing for hydrated, silky smooth limbs.

January Favourites
I'm sounding the monthly favourites whistle for the first time in 2015. There's a surprisingly minimal amount of makeup in here for once which can be attributed to the humidity. Who has time for makeup when it's just going to slide off your face anyway? There's also some reading material and an organisational favourite for the month year. Enjoy!
