The Reading Pile: April Update
It's been a while now since I did a post on books around these parts. I get less time to read once Uni starts back up so it isn't really until the holidays or the weekends that I get any done. You'll notice there's no novels this month-I re-read The Fault In Our Stars, which is great and you should all read it. I also read a series of short stories which I didn't end up finishing hence no review. I did however make my way through a couple of magazines, a cookbook and a new photography gem so if any of those take your fancy then read on...
Miss Dahl's Voluptous Delights, a gift from Britney-I'm a bit of a Sophie Dahl fan, and I promise it's not entirely to do with her first name. I used to love reading the columns she'd write for British Vogue so I was excited to receive this cookbook from Britney. In it you'll find recipes as well as personal stories from Sophie coinciding with each season. It's a beautifully photographed and presented cookbook and I've been getting a lot of use out of it.
Miss Vogue, Issue 2-The second volume of Miss Vogue Australia was released a month or so ago so I'm not sure if you can still find it at the shops now. I haven't really read this issue properly yet but there were lots of fantastic interviews and articles in this issue. There was also less iPad-exclusive content in this issue as well which is great if you're like me and don't own an iPad.

Miss Vogue
As soon as the Miss Vogue promos started to appear in my Twitter and Instagram feeds I was on Google and texting Maria pretty quickly. Tracking it down was a little bit more of a mission but after picking up my copy in town I set about reading the magazine to find out just what exactly Miss Vogue is. For those not in the know, Miss Vogue is a magazine aimed at teens and 20-somethings who are up to speed on all things, fashion, beauty and pop culture. This magazine is for the trendsetters, the worshippers and the fans who just can't get enough of the Vogue Magazine empire.

I was really impressed by the inaugural issue of Miss Vogue Australia. It was exactly what I expected it to be and more-you can bet I will be getting the next issue once it hits newsstands! To prevent sounding like too much of a fangirl I've compiled a list of what I liked and disliked from the first issue. Read on..
Likes
*An article about the Evolution of the Selfie and its continually evolving effects on society today. If you cast your mind back five years ago we didn't have reverse cameras. Selfies came care of Webcams or the camera facing towards a mirror so you could see what you were doing. With the introduction of iPhones, Instagram and more recently SnapChat, it's not surprising the way the selfie has changed and this article made for interesting reading.
*Elle Fanning, the cover star. The accompanying editorial with Elle is stunning and if you haven't seen the pictures then you should get on Google.
*The mix of stories. An interview with Lorde, skater style and a look at Alexa Chung's new book all stood out but there were so many good ones.
*The beauty stories, in particular on Aesop-an Australian skincare brand who I didn't know much about. The men's take on perfume is also worth a read.
Dislikes
*The one thing I disliked is that some content was only accessible through the Miss Vogue iPad app. That is all well and good if you own an iPad but I currently don't so that was a little disappointing. Maybe they'll introduce an iPhone app eventually.

September Favourites
September is one of my favourite times of year. Not only do we get to marvel at all the fabulous Spring collections but here in New Zealand we get to break out the more Spring appropriate makeup. Beauty Favourites
EOS Strawberry Sorbet Lip Balm Winter seems to leave my lips a dry, chapped mess which obviously isn't ideal. A combination of this, this lip butter and a little bit of this lip scrub all seem to be doing the job. Anyway, this lip balm is fantastic. It's not overly thick but has just the right amount of moisture to leave your lips hydrated.
Mac Eyeshadow in Nylon This eyeshadow is the perfect inner corner highlight. Applying shadow to the tear duct area (inner corner) of the eye really brightens them up and makes your eyes appear wider and further apart. This shade in particular is shimmery but is more wearable for daytime than some other highlighting shades. I like to wear this over the lid with some neutral shades as well.
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak Coral and orange lipsticks are not something I usually head towards but they're the kind of shades I am obsessed with at the moment. This lipstick is super pigmented and moisturising. Some brands seem to bring out moisturising lipsticks but have sheerer finishes and vice versa so Urban Decay are ahead of the pack with this one. Next on my wishlist is Bang, a bright orange-red.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla Let's get straight to the point. Is this concealer worth the hunt and the hype that follows with it? Absolutely. It's like nothing else I've used. Most full coverage concealers I've tried usually go cakey or feel drying once applied. This one is creamy and has a velvet texture. There's a wide range of shades available as well so you should find something to suit your skin tone.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Rollerball, limited edition. I love Marc Jacobs perfumes, I don't think there's ever been one I haven't particularly liked. I've had this in my handbag all month to apply once my other perfumes start to wear off. These are great to take traveling as well, especially as most perfume bottles can be quite bulky.
Urban Decay 'Chill' Makeup Setting Spray There's nothing particularly new or revolutionary about setting sprays but Urban Decay's are pretty good. You spritz this over your face like a mist and it sets your makeup helping it stay in place and also last longer. This setting spray is fantastic. I just wish it was available in a smaller size like Urban Decay's other setting sprays.
