My roundup of five things is back for June. This month we have; a couple of online reads, some things you should watch, a book you should read and some earrings you should send me on the sly in the post. All jokes aside on the last point, if I win Lotto or something-these are mine. 

The Royal Wedding According To Caitlin: "The prince who goes against all narratives of masculinity, and is brave enough to speak openly about his own emotional and mental problems, and revolutionises the way we think of a heavily stigmatised illness. The prince who rejects all the nice, blonde English girls he is supposed to marry and finds a woman from a different continent and culture, a woman who is emotionally stronger than him, brighter than him, more confident than him-and gives her, in front of a global audience of two billion people, his platform, to show her world." Caitlin Moran wrote a brilliant piece for the Times about the recent royal wedding. She expands on some of the many brilliant comments she made on Twitter but also provides a refreshing insight into the occasion. If you think you're sick about hearing about *that* wedding, I suggest you read this before giving the idea of it a rest.

Heartburn: Nora. Freakin'. Ephron. Why has it taken me so long to read her work? Much like the decadent, rich meals she describes in Heartburn, I devoured this over a few sittings. A story about marriage and betrayal, told with humour and candidness. This semi-autobiographical novel could easily have been bleak and depressing but Ephron tells it with such brilliance. I highly recommend you give this a read.

A Starfish For Your Ears: Showing my 00's girl movie history here but these earrings remind me of Aquamarine when starfish adorn the mermaid's ears. Well that's how I remember it at least. I like star motifs so naturally that extends to starfish. It helps of course that they're under Alexa's banner as well but yeah. I wouldn't be upset if these were in my life.

Should I Buy This?: I love these chatty blog posts that Leandra and Amelia do. That and I just like seeing what people are buying+thinking of buying. I prefer this format to people's hauls on YouTube, maybe because it's easier to digest? Anyway, I digress. While this post is seasonally off, for me at least, it's still giving me inspiration for next Summer and beyond.

What Olivia Vlogged: My girl Liv always uploads fantastic content but I've particularly loved her videos lately. I don't really tune in to anyone's channels anymore but Liv's is one I always visit. Her office tour in particular had me all *heart eyed emojis* but if you're planning a wedding and aren't sure where to start, her recent video showcasing Kikki K's bridal range is worth a watch too. If you get wedding guest anxiety like me, she has some tips in there too for guests of the couple.

Our most private collections: I seem to flit in and out of the Man Repeller blog but right now I am firmly back. Their articles have been on point lately and I am one hundred per cent here for it. Anyway, my inner nosy-parker loved this story on people's private collections. It gives me throwbacks to the 00's girl magazines who'd share stories like this as well. Anyway, well worth a read as is the Man Repeller archive. Do it. 

You are going to be okay: Thought Catalog is a site I stumbled upon early in my university days and would frequent regularly. They feature brilliant pieces but this one particularly resonated. I keep it bookmarked for days when everything seems to be going pear shaped. It's short but effective-I've even forwarded it to friends in need a couple of times as well.

Where to start with Ali Smith: As the title gives away, Laura has written an article for Book Riot of where to start with the sometimes daunting writing of Ali Smith. I completely agree that The Accidental is a perfect place to start, followed by How To Be Both. Her short story volume Public Library is a great introduction as well. 

Shop small: The online independent maker-scene is one of my favourite places to find new illustrators and artists to support. Rebecca shared this list of her favourite stationery brands+art prints as well as places to buy cute treats for your doggos. I'm lusting after things from Wildflower Illustration Co. as well as Sonni & Blush.  

Tavi Gevinson: Prepare to feel old because Style Rookie recently turned ten. Anyway, in honour of the occasion and Tavi being one of the faces for Kate Spade's new fragrance, she shared her Top Shelf over on Into The Gloss. It's worth a peruse and her bathroom is seriously dreamy. 

I read a lot. A lot, a lot so it's hardly surprising that I re-read books. This tends to happen when I'm feeling nostalgic or can't choose which book to read next. In this video I get nostalgic and a little bit analytical. Once an English Literature student, always an English Literature student. We're at the finish line when it comes to favourites videos for 2014. This time I've rounded up some skincare, beauty tools, even some haircare. There's also a couple of non-beauty favourites in there too because I just couldn't leave them out. I'm also sporting my current favourite piece of clothing. More on that tomorrow. One of my aims this year was to get back into posting a bit more fashion content on Nana Wintour. Fashion was my first love and makeup didn't really get a look in, until I discovered Mac eyeliner. Anyway, back to fashion. Whenever I head to bookstores, the fashion book selection is one of the first I seek out, so it's hardly surprising I have a collection of fashion reads of my own. Today I thought I'd share with you the best of the bunch-the ones I recommend on a regular basis and the ones I reach for to read again and again..

Influence by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen-When I think back ten or so years ago I remember how much I loved Mary Kate and Ashley. The movies, the books, even the dolls. Nowadays I'm still just as obsessed with them, but it's their activities in the fashion world that take my fancy. Influence is like a sophisticated scrapbook. There are interviews with the girl's favourite artists and designers, from Karl Lagerfeld to Lauren Hutton. There's also snapshots of the girls most treasured mementoes, some gorgeous editorial shots of each sister and personal interviews that they conducted with one another. If you're a fan of Mary Kate and Ashley then you're bound to love this book. 

Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty-I was always sad this exhibition never traveled to the Southern Hemisphere, but there's no need to fret when this book exists. Savage Beauty was released alongside the exhibition and contains the most stunning images of his designs. I love this dress in particular. There are also his words of wisdom throughout and interviews with those who knew him best, including Sarah Burton. This book would make the perfect gift for a fashionista or fashion design student. Alexander's attention to detail and innovative design was incredible.

Tim Walker Pictures-The best forty pounds I've spent was on this book. I even carried it all over London during the day, that's how determined I was to take it home. As expected it contains many of Tim's finest editorial photographs from many of the Vogue publications. There are also unseen photos, pages from his journals which chart his inspirations and more. This is one of those books you'll find yourself constantly revisiting. There's always something new to see or rediscover. This is definitely not a book you'll want to hide away, keep it out on the coffee table as a point of reference and inspiration for your guests too.

So if you saw Friday's post you'll know my reading is about to take a fictitious turn. Before that happens though I had to share these two fashion tomes with you all. If you're yet to buy a gift for someone who loves both fashion and books then either of these are bound to go down a treat.

Tongue in Chic by Kirstie Clements This book is a work of fiction but it doesn't follow your traditional novel format as such. It is more of a collection of tales that has been gathered from Kirstie's extensive time spent within the fashion magazine industry. All the names and specific details have been changed so if you're like me you'll be speculating over who she's referring to. One detail that stood out to me was the fact they ordered Diptyque candles wholesale to the office because they were so popular. There were also stories of editors buying the latest trend pieces only to have them never see the light of day on returning home from the fashion shows. If you enjoyed her first book, or like me just love hearing insider stories from within magazines and fashion then you'll like this a lot.

Man Repeller by Leandra Medine A collection of essays in which life and fashion collide perfectly  probably best describes Leandra's first book. Each chapter usually features a key outfit such as the tuxedo suit and a life moment to go alongside it. Her story about an internship at Valentino was particularly entertaining. The writing really reflects Leandra's wit that shines through on her blog. If you're a fan of Man Repeller and are yet to read this book then get yourself a copy! You will laugh. You will be inspired. You may even find some fash-spiration hiding in its pages.

Bourjois Bronzing Primer, available here. Dubbed the alternative to the Chanel cream bronzer and it certainly delivers. While this is a bit too dark for me to use all over my face it works well underneath  bases to add a touch of warmth to your skintone. It is incredibly easy to blend so you aren't left looking noticeably orange. You can wear this alone or as a primer which makes it perfect for lazy makeup days. 

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, limited edition. This palette has only been in my possession for a week but given it's being used daily it deserves a mention. You can read full ravings here but this palette has highlighting, setting makeup and subtly bronzing the complexion all covered. Each of the powders is designed to add a soft-focus effect to the skin and masks imperfections in the process. The palette itself is sold out now but all these powders except for the highlighting shade are available separately so you can always pick up one of those. 

Korres Lip Butters in Jasmine and Pomegranate, available here. These are fantastic for keeping your lips hydrated and silky smooth during the Summer months. If you're wearing matte lipstick, or any lipstick actually, these are great to apply beforehand as they make your lips that much smoother. These are also deliciously scented and subtly tinted so they're the ideal no-makeup day companion.

The end of the year seems to mark the time when all the brilliant books arrive in the shops. November is no exception and this bevy of tomes will have all your Summer reading and baking needs sorted...

Bonkers by Jennifer Saunders, available here. When I heard Jennifer was writing a book I was excited. If you're familiar with her work on both French & Saunders and Absolutely Fabulous then you'll know she is an incredibly gifted writer and a gem when it comes to comedy. Each chapter focuses on a specific time period or memory and is retold through Saunder's witty prose. If you're a fan of her work then you will enjoy this a lot.

Bluebells Cakery by Karla Goodwin, available here. There were some other recipe books that took out the most aesthetically pleasing award-but they have now been knocked off their pedestals. Bluebells Cakery is home to the best cakes and sweet treats in Auckland hands down. Karla's cookbook contains all her most popular recipes along with step-by-step guides to icing techniques and even a guide to throwing the perfect high tea. This would make such a lovely gift for someone who loves baking. This book is simply beautiful and the recipes are all easy to follow. Definitely check out the Vanilla cupcakes. They are divine. 

These cupcakes are also amazing too!
