The Beauty Loop Box

I've been a member of Mecca's Beauty Loop for a couple of years now and it was after a purchase of one of the Hourglass blushes recently that I came away with this box as well. Beauty Loop is Mecca's alternative to the Sephora Beauty Insider service or Space NK's N.dulge rewards. It works similarly to these but it isn't identical. Some of the perks you'll get as a Beauty Loop member include free product samples, the opportunity to preview+buy products before they officially launch and receive Beauty Loop boxes like the ones pictured above. I do love a good sample box but they can be very hit and miss. I had high hopes for Mecca's box though and decided to do mini reviews of what I tried for you.

Note: The sample sizes were small so these reviews aren't meant to be in depth. Think of them as my first impressions, and verdicts on whether I'd go out and buy the products.

Bare Minerals Stroke Of Light Eye Brightener-This is what I'd imagine a more luxe version of the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer to be like. It's lightweight and is easy to blend. I'm not sure whether I received Shade 1 or 2 in my box but it definitely did have a brightening effect. It didn't crease on me either which is a bonus.

Purchase? Probably, I'm just waiting for my Origins Plantscription concealer to run out first.

Eve Lom Cleanser-This sample packet notes that Vogue once declared this the best cleanser in the world. Bold claims but it certainly delivered. One thing I will get out of the way now is I really didn't like the scent. It's not exactly overpowering but it is quite herbal which won't be for everyone.  It has quite a balmy texture and it gets rid of all your makeup. My skin felt so clean after using this and the next day it was incredibly soft.

Purchase? If you can get past the scent of this cleanser you'll probably really enjoy it. I can understand why Vogue and Lisa Eldridge are fans. Since trying this I've found out this cleanser contains mineral oil, which is an ingredient I tend to steer clear of so I'm not sure I'd buy this. It is also incredibly expensive *sad face*.

Nars Pro Prime Light Optimising Primer-This was the one product that I had tried before as a Mecca artist used this on me when I had makeup done on counter last year. Dewy finishes are something I tend to avoid with my combination skin but this was nothing too over the top. It has more of a creamy texture as opposed to a silicone primer which I liked. I was worried this primer would make my skin look overly oily but it really didn't. My skin just looked dewy and my makeup lasted just as well as it does with this underneath.

Purchase? No and that's only because my favourite face primer is on its way out, so I'll repurchase that. Dry skinned girls will like this because it is quite moisturising and won't cling to dry patches on your face.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae-I tried looking for this fragrance online but it seems like it is only available from Mecca Australia, not New Zealand. Aqua Vitae is described as "an eau de toilette to awaken the senses with accents of lemon, mandarin, hedione, vanilla, tonka bean and guaiac wood." If you're a fan of scents like Philosykos by Diptyque which is more earthy and fresh then you'll probably like this. I just find it a bit too intense for my liking but I'll still use the sample vial up.

Purchase? No. Don't get me wrong I didn't loathe this scent. It's just not something I would typically wear.

All in all I was very impressed by the Beauty Loop box. Mecca should make this a monthly service for Beauty Loop members.

*Have you received a Beauty Loop box before? What did you think of it?

  1. I kinda like the scent of the Eve Lom cleanser, so much so I looked up the fragrance notes (chamomile + hops etc) to know what to look for in a cleanser without mineral oil. I kept the tiny cloth I got with a sample though coz that was nice and non scratchy.

    1. Oh really? Most of my skincare is lightly scented but I just found the Eve Lom cleanser too overpowering. I'm sure it's something that people would be able to get used to though. It's such a pity it has mineral oil in it! Maybe REN do something similar? I like the muslin cloth it came with too. They sell those separately as well I believe.
