MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation

This year it seems like a lot of the beauty brand heavyweights have been getting innovative with foundations. Some have even been years in the making, here's looking at you Charlotte Tilbury. Ever since I got to play with this foundation from Mac at a trends presentation, I knew it would be something I'd want to test further. Seriously, the bottle nearly accidentally deliberately made its way into my bag coming home. I digress, makeup thievery is not my forte. Reviews however, that's another story...

Mac's Studio Waterweight foundation is their second new base offering to launch this year and, spoiler alert it doesn't disappoint. I have the shade NC20*, the second lightest and it is a perfect match for my skintone. There is the chance that it may be ever so slightly too light in a couple of months, she types skeptically, but for now it does the trick. I am very bad at the whole selfie thing but you can see it on my face here and in any of my #fotd 'grams/snaps from the last couple of months.

The Mac site describe this as having medium, buildable coverage and that's really spot on. I only ever use one drop from the dropper and can get my whole face done with that. It actually amazes me how far this foundation goes because you barely need any. As for its finish, I'd say it leans more on the satin side of things. It's not entirely matte but it isn't overly luminous either. Studio Waterweight feels weightless on the skin too and it barely looks like you're wearing any makeup. So ladies+gents, if you are a fan of the no makeup-makeup thing then this is for you.

My skin doesn't tend to drink up foundation like it's going out of fashion, but with a primer layered over the top this base wears well for a good 6 hours before needing a slight touch up with some powder or concealer. It's impressive stuff! At $72 this foundation sits more on the luxe end of things but given how little you use per application, a bottle of this would do you nicely for a long time indeed. Studio Waterweight, it's love. Please don't be discontinued for a good while.

-Have you tried Mac's newest foundation? What did you think of it?
