August Favourites

August is nearly over and that means it's time to review my monthly beauty favourites. It was my birthday at the start of the month so I scored myself some new products because of that. I've also been trying to use up products I already have this month, more on that Wednesday, and have been using palettes like Naked 2 and Most Glamorous Nudes a lot. On the whole though my beauty routine has more or less been the same. I will try to change that next month, promise!

Here's what has made its way into my August favourites:

I apologise for the lighting of this image. It has been dark and rainy most of the weekend so I was competing with limited natural light. Sorry about that!

Benefit Blush in Coralista One of my friends bought me this blush for my birthday and I have worn it nearly every day since. As the name suggests this is a coral blush with very fine shimmer running through it. The shimmer and colour are both very subtle so if you're a bit of a blushophobe like me then you will love this shade.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara* I had never tried Rimmel mascaras before but I had seen Alix using this in some of her videos and wanted to try it out. I really like this mascara. It reminds me a lot of Chanel Inimitable which I used to own a while ago. The wand and formula are both very similar. Anyway, this mascara looks lovely on. It doesn't flake or clump and it lengthens and separates the lashes well. I'll definitely be repurchasing this when it runs out.

Mac Eyeshadow in Bronze Bronze eyeshadows seem to be my favourite to wear at the moment and I added this one to my Mac quad earlier in the month. It's similar to Eclair but the shade is slightly lighter and not as shimmery. I like wearing this sheerly across the lid. It's such a pretty colour. Go have a swatch of it next time you're in a Mac store.

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera The lipgloss-lipstick hybrid. This applies like a gloss and dries matte. I'd recommend applying lip balm first if your lips are a little dry. This vibrant orange-red colour is so pretty. It has fantastic staying power too and will not budge, even if you're out having a meal. I think I'll get a lot of wear out of this in Summer.

Benefit 'It's Potent' Eye Cream* Let's just start by saying this eye cream is packaged gorgeously. The container reminds me of something you might see on someone's vanity in the fifties. This brightening eye cream is designed to fade dark circles, smoothes fine lines and hydrates the eye area. With ingredients such as burnet, an Ancient Chinese remedy and apple extract this cream certainly packs a potent punch. It is incredibly hydrating and while I still have dark circles, they definitely aren't as obvious. It's nothing a bit of corrector can't fix.

Diptique Philosykos Eau De Toilette A quick glance at my perfume collection will tell you I like sweet, floral, fruity fragrances so Philosykos is quite outside of my perfume comfort zone. The scent smells very fresh and the fig notes really stand out. As I said in my haul post it feels like a 'grown up', sophisticated scent and I love it.

Kikki K 'A Sentence A Day' Journal This was one of my friend's 21st presents and I ended up liking it so much that I went back and got myself one. Basically you answer a question every day for the next three years and write a short response underneath it. The questions are great and it'll be interesting to see how my answers change over the next few years. If you're one of those people who isn't so good at keeping a diary then this may be the journal for you.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, travel size This primer is lightweight, oil free and contains SPF 15. It has a matte finish but it doesn't feel drying at all. Out of all the primers I own this one definitely keeps my foundation in place the longest and my skin doesn't react to it. If you need your makeup to last a long time then this is definitely worth the investment.

  1. Love the idea of a sentence a day, I'm awful at writing journals so this might be useful for me! I've tried the Liz Earle Colour Sheer Skin Tint this month(what a mouth full) and really loved it! I only had a few samples but I really want to buy it x

    1. This is such a great journal. You might also like Listography as well. It's fantastic. We can't get Liz Earle in New Zealand but it sounds like such a great brand. I wish we could get it! x
