The Reading Pile

One of my favourite things about the Summer holidays is that I can read books or magazines, in the sun. This is best done in a tropical paradise like Rarotonga but home is also a good place to read. I didn't finish any proper books last month but as it is now the holidays I have finally been getting around to some reading. Yay!

What's on my book pile!



The Distant Hours, By Kate Morton. This book tells the story of Edie Burchill & her mother, who receives a mysterious letter in the mail. Edie decides to venture off on a journey which leads her to Milderhurst Castle where she learns more about the past than she expected. As the book says; "The truth of what happened in the distant hours has been waiting a long time for someone to find it." 

I'm currently reading this book & I love it. Like Morton's other works this book varies between a first person narrative by Edie & flashbacks to the past, which is a style I enjoy in novels. I really enjoyed The Forgotten Garden which is also by Morton so I am loving reading this book.


Storyteller-Roald Dahl, By Donald Sturrock. This is what I plan on reading next, I like to always rotate between reading fiction & non-fiction texts otherwise I tend to get sick of one or the other. As someone who loved Boy-Tales of Childhood growing up I am really looking forward to reading this book about Roald Dahl's life. It's an authorised biography too & Sturrock was granted access to the Roald Dahl Museum's archives which makes it all the more intriguing.



Frankie Magazine Issue 50. The highly anticipated 50th issue of the magazine we all know & love is finally here & it doesn't disappoint. For starters, the cover is designed to look like it's been hand stitched! How awesome is that? The magazine itself resembles a book & inside is a treasure-trove of content. 

As I'm currently reading this still I can't comment on the issue as a whole, but from what I've seen so far I love it!! Frankie have really gone the extra mile with the issue to make it memorable & entice newcomers to their magazine. I particularly love that there's a tear-out book featuring cake recipes & a Meryl Streep themed article in this issue as well as all the usual Frankie goodness.

Lula Magazine Issue 15. It's always a good day when I see Twitter whisperings declaring that a new issue of Lula isn't far from the shelves, especially since only two issues are released per year. This issue features Dior Jewellery, Laura & Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte, Lena Dunham, Luella Bartley & more. 

I sadly haven't had the chance to read this issue properly yet but I did love spying Kara Hayward (Susie in Moonrise Kingdom) wearing current season Karen Walker in the editorial accompanying her interview! There are also plenty of other gorgeous editorials & articles which I can't wait to have a better look at too.

      Thank you Maria. You always leave the most lovely comments. I love your blog's editing & post design too.
      I'll send you & Izzy a copy of Lula over so you'll see it then! I'm pretty sure Kate Morton is an Australian author so you should definitely have a look at her books, you'd love them.
